Terms of Service
Last updated: March 13, 2026
The software
LiveBrain is open-source software distributed under the MIT License. You can use, modify, and redistribute it freely under the terms of that license. The software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
Your API key
LiveBrain requires an OpenAI API key to function. You provide your own key, which is stored locally in your macOS Keychain. You are solely responsible for:
- The costs associated with your OpenAI API usage
- Keeping your API key secure
- Complying with OpenAI's terms of service
LiveBrain does not have access to your API key on any server. Your key never leaves your device except when making direct API calls to OpenAI.
Your data
All meeting data — audio recordings, transcripts, questions, answers, and file embeddings — is stored locally on your device. You own this data completely. LiveBrain does not access, collect, or store your meeting data on any server.
Feedback program
LiveBrain includes an optional feedback program. Participation requires your explicit opt-in. If you choose to participate:
- Session data is anonymized on your device before transmission (personally identifiable information is detected and replaced with synthetic substitutes)
- Only anonymized text data is transmitted — never audio, files, or API keys
- You can opt out at any time in Settings
See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.
Recording consent
You are responsible for complying with all applicable laws regarding recording conversations. Many jurisdictions require consent from all parties before recording. LiveBrain is a tool — how you use it is your responsibility. Know your local recording laws before using LiveBrain in meetings.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use LiveBrain to record conversations without required consent
- Reverse engineer the anonymization process to identify individuals in feedback data
- Use LiveBrain in any way that violates applicable laws
No warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. THIS APPLIES TO THE SOFTWARE, THE WEBSITE, AND ANY ASSOCIATED SERVICES.
Limitation of liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Costs incurred through API usage
- Loss of data
- Inaccurate transcriptions or AI responses
- Any consequences of recording conversations
